Basic Bets in Baccarat that Every Player Should Know

Baccarat is a fun and rewarding game with simple rules. The objective of the game is to predict which hand has the value closest to or exactly at 9. To play, you wager on either the banker’s hand or the player’s hand. You can also bet that both the banker and the player will have the same hand value. Whether you are playing in an online or a land-based casino, you can conveniently place your bet on the designated area of the baccarat table and get the chance to hit big wins. Before placing your chips, you should know the odds first. Check out this baccarat guide to know which bet to opt for when playing the game.

1| Banker Bet

In baccarat, the Banker or Banco bet is a wager placed in favor of the banker’s hand. In terms of odds, this bet is considered as the wager with the best odds of winning. It offers the lowest house edge of 1.06% and has a 1:1 winning payout. Many online casinos collect a 5% commission from every winning Banker bet. Take note, though, that the commission rate may vary on every betting platform, so make sure to check the terms of the casino prior to playing.

2| Player Bet

The Player or Punto bet is the counterpart of the Banker bet. Like the Banker bet, the Player bet offers a payout ratio of 1:1 but does not give the house a 5% commission whenever the player wins. The Player bet has a 1.36% house edge which is higher than the Banker bet but significantly lower compared to the Tie bet.

3| Tie Bet

As the name suggests, Tie bet allows you to bet that the banker’s hand and the player’s hand will have the same value. What makes this bet appealing is its whopping payout ratio of 8:1 or 9:1 depending on the casino. The downside is a Tie bet is considered as the least favorable baccarat option because of the 15% house edge. In short, this bet offers high returns for high risk.

Each betting option has its advantages and disadvantages. For this reason, it is essential to pick a wager that will suit your preference and bankroll accordingly. Hone your baccarat skills by placing your bets on some rounds of the game today. Or better yet, play on betting sites that allow you to play casino games in Fun mode. This way, you get to know a game’s features without placing bets with real money.

If you want to expand your betting options, you can opt for high-limit baccarat. This baccarat variation allows you to make combination bets of Player and Tie or Banker and Tie.
