The Simple Tutorial to Learning High-Limit Baccarat
Baccarat’s other names are punto banco and chemin de fer. The casino game is popular in Macau and among high rollers because it looks elegant and serious. Fans of 007 will remember the 1962 film, Dr. No, wherein the secret agent plays baccarat against Sylvia Trench. In reality, you play the game similar to betting on a coin toss.
Pick Your Bet
You can bet on the player, the banker (also called the dealer), or a tie. The dealer is going to deal the cards face-up, with two cards each for the player and the banker. You are not the player or the banker. Instead, you will be betting on whose hand is going to reach 9, or close to 9.
Playing to Lose
In baccarat, you are not playing to get the highest score. Instead, you need to get as close to 9 as possible. If you bet on the player hand and it is closer to 9, the winnings are double of what you bet. If you bet on the banker and the banker wins, the casino gets a 5% commission and you get the rest.
If the Score is More Than 9, Add
If the total hand is 23, you drop the 2. When you bet on the player and the hand comes up as a tie, your bet is returned. If you bet on a tie and the hands are tied, you get an 8-to-1 payout on your bet.
The rules of high-limit baccarat are almost exactly the same with regular baccarat. The difference is that the former allows you to make a bet combining Player-and-Tie, or Banker-and-Tie. In high-limit baccarat, you can put 500 credits on Banker and another 500 on Player if you want to. But there is no need to overreach your budget because the minimum bet is 1 credit. This makes baccarat an online game that fits in almost any player’s budget.
